French presidency of the Union: After the Lisbon strategy, make way for "Lisbon Plus"

Two years from completion, the Lisbon strategy presents a half-hearted evaluation and will not enable Europe to become in 2010 “world’s leading economic power in matters of knowledge”. France, which is to take on the presidency of Europe in July, will therefore consider a new strategy for the ‘after Lisbon’ period, taking inspiration from the report ‘Euromonde 2015’, submitted yesterday to Christine Lagarde. This report recommends notably, in the frame of the strategy ‘Lisbon Plus’, to make the ‘Lisbon targets’ more restricting for the member States, and to refocus these targets on competitiveness and innovation.
